This project debuted in Calgary, Alberta, at The Big Secret Theatre in October 2015, featuring urban dance choreography and original music by local musicians and lyricists. Since then it has gone on tour in southern Alberta to spread the message of Connection.
Letters looks behind the closed doors of Calgary’s seemingly “perfect world” to connect the dots to the solution that intimate connection can bring to families. It brings to light the roots that are causing these hard struggles that everyday families are facing, with powerful story-telling through original songs created by local emcees Rebecca Dawn, Rubix and Cam the Human, spoken word artist Vilaphone "Jenny" Chanthabouala, singer/songwriter AJ Robless, and beatmakers Brotherhood, Krippled Khemist and Jayzen.
Letters tells the vulnerable story of three Calgary teens suffering from disconnection. “Our hope is that every youth who attends the show and hears the music can identify with one of the characters and be encouraged to find resilience. We also hope that parents who watch the show will leave with hope and ready to do whatever it takes to fight for their children”, says the show’s Artistic Director, Connie Jakab.
The show will inspire families that hope can prevail against all odds, and that in the fear families are facing, there is courage to overcome.
